Report: 10% of recent Chinese grads earn more than $1,030/month

About 10 percent fresh bachelor's degree-holders in China earn more than 7,000 RMB ($1,030) every month, according to an employment report released by education research company MyCOS Institute on June 12, Beijing News reported. The report analyzed the employment status of 147,000 former undergraduates and 142,000 higher vocational graduates during 2016.

Data from the report shows that the average monthly income of those holding a bachelor's degree in 2016 reached 4,367 RMB ($643) half a year after graduating, up 334 RMB ($49) from respondents in 2015. About 10.3 percent earned more than 7,000 RMB ($1,030) every month.

There is a rapid growth of income three years after graduation, as the average monthly income of 114,000 students who graduated in 2013 was 5,989 RMB ($881) in 2016, up 84 percent from immediately after they graduated, the report pointed out.

Majors including Information Security, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Digital Media Art and Advertisement Science were listed as especially in demand, based on levels of employment, monthly income and job satisfaction. However, History, Musical Performance, Biotechnology, Law, Fine Arts and Bioengineering were listed as saturated fields based on the same indicators.

In addition, the report said that the employment rate of recent graduates remained more or less stable half a year after graduation.
