The village of Xi Cun is currently undergoing renovation, following a recent announcement by the municipal government of Guangzhou, Guangdong province. Launched in 2010, the renovation project has attracted significant attention, as the village is an important part of the central axis of urban planning in Guangzhou. The project was previously suspended due to issues with funding and planning. Over 100 years old, Xi Cun is home to 1,900 households. The village possesses its own ancestral hall, which will be retained during the renovation. After the renovation is complete, the village will also boast vegetable and fruit markets, kindergartens, senior centers and more.
