A Chinese company offered AU $88,888,888.88 to buy a property in central Sydney.
The offer was made jointly by Chinese firm Bridge Capital and Australian iProsperity Group. The number was chosen since the number eight is considered lucky in Chinese culture as it sounds like the word for "prosperity" in Chinese.
They plan to turn the property into a residential building and a hotel with a harbour view.
Vince Kernahan of Colliers International, the agency handling the sale, told BBC that this is not the first time that Chinese buyers have chosen to offer a price that includes numbers that are considered lucky.
Kernahan said that the offer was very close to others but the Chinese investors chose this number specifically in hope for good luck, in an interview with the BBC.
Seems it paid off, as they won the bid with the lucky number.
