Influential philanthropists around the world, including the leading environmental experts, business gurus, and government leaders, will be gathering in Honolulu, Hawaii, between August 29 to September 1 to discuss environmental conservation and cooperation, prior to the grand opening of the 2016 World Conservation Congress.
Jointly organized by Shenzhen’s China Global Philanthropy Institute (CGPI) and the East-West Center, an international organization established by the US Congress, the Summit will focus on topics related to conversation of natural resources.
Leaders, specialists, and experts will explore the importance of the philanthropy industry towards sustainable developments. Topics on how the charity sector could get more involved in the conservation of marine biodiversity, green finance, and smart city will also be discussed.
As of August 19, 2016, a total of 125 leaders have confirmed attending the Summit.
A sustainable development leadership luncheon, jointly organized by secretariat for organization of the summit as well as IUCN, is to be held on September 1 prior to the opening of the 2016 World Conservation Congress.
Focusing on the field of sustainable development and capital support for partnership, panelists and guest speakers will aim to expand unprecedented cross-sector cooperation through global linkage and sustainable business models. All these collaborations relate to biodiversity, climate change, coastal protection, ocean, water resources and land management.
"China's rising economy has created new opportunities for the cooperation between philanthropists around the globe. It will also promote sustainable development in this sector. We are willing to take on the burden of public welfare and international charitable cooperation, and will strive to create more opportunities for the global philanthropy pioneers to have dialogue and exchanges on environmental protection and sustainable development," says Wang Zhenyao, Dean of CGPI.
"We are honored to be able to gather world’s leading philanthropists here. Participants of this summit are all committed to building a new partnership for sustainable development. They are all willing to take action to protect global natural resources, and to promote human well-being," says Carol Fox, Director for Special Projects for the East-West Center.
