A bomb over 1 meter long was excavated from a construction site in Tancheng county in east China's Shandong province on May 8. Construction work was halted right away and police were called in.

Military experts confirmed that the bomb was an American AB-250-54 aviation bomb left there during liberation war between 1945 and 1949. The bomb was 1.5 meters long. It weighed over 150 kilograms and was 0.45 meters in diameter. The powerful bomb was still intact when it was unearthed.

An evacuation zone was immediately set up around the bomb, and policemen were on guard around the clock. On May 11, EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) experts came to the site to detonate the bomb.

The bomb was carefully moved to a sandbank and placed into a previously dug pit. When the bomb was detonated, it left a hole of over 10 meters in diameter.
