Chongqing noodles take off in Paris

Chongqing noodles made by a Chinese woman named Yang Nikun have become extremely popular among French customers in Paris, Chongqing Morning Post reported on Wednesday.

After graduating from Beijing Forestry University in 2008, Yang went to France for further studies. Born in Chongqing, a city famous for its food and snacks, Yang wanted to offer authentic Chongqing noodles to French customers. So she opened a restaurant in Paris and began promoting it on mobile apps.

Pricing her noodles at around 9 euros per bowl, Yang easily sells 40 to 50 bowls every day. Besides Chongqing noodle, Yang’s restaurant also offers traditional Chinese foods such as wonton and rice noodles.

The Sichuan peppers for her dishes are all brought from China. Yang said she even has the main ingredient, shuiyezi noodles, custom made at a local shop since they are not available in regular markets.

Though the majority of Yang’s customers are Chinese, many French people also frequent her restaurant. A customer from southern France even drank up all the broth after finishing the noodles, Yang said.
