Anyone can be 007 with Sony’s video-recording contact lenses

(People's Daily Online)    16:53, May 05, 2016

Being amazed by all the hi-tech equipment is a crucial part of watching a 007 movie. Now, video-recording contact lenses invented by Sony could make one of those technologies available in real life.

As reported by Mashable, a patent application submitted by Sony in 2014 demonstrates that Sony is researching and developing a new contact lens that will be able to record videos. By blinking an eye, the user can operate the lens via a display. The camera boasts autofocus, automatic exposure adjustment and an adjustable zoom. It does not need to be tethered to a smartphone.

According to the patent application, a normal blink takes 0.2 to 0.4 seconds. The contact lens can decide whether the user is issuing a switch order based on the length of the blink.

Nevertheless, some people worry that if this product really does become available, personal privacy would be at risk since it would be quite easy to covertly film someone with the lenses.
