Dai Jia and Wang Yu, two mermaid “practitioners,” give four underwater shows a day from Monday to Sunday at an aquarium. Dai and Wang say that the underwater show is demanding, as physical strength and athletic skills are necessary in order to perform well.
Apart from playing mermaids in the show, Dai and Wang are also responsible for other tasks at the aquarium.
Dai quit her job as a wedding planner in 2016. Wang, who majored in medical biotechnology, made up her mind to play a mermaid after watching the very underwater show in which she now stars.
