World Book and Copyright Day, also known as International Day of the Book or World Book Day, is a yearly event on April 23, organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing and copyright. Bookshops and libraries in Edinburgh, the world's first UNESCO City of Literature, started to launch activities including exhibitions and reading from the beginning of March to mark the 400th anniversary of the death of English poet and playwright William Shakespeare.
