Pretending to be a wealthy business owner, Chen Liangtao, 49, registered for marriage with four women successively. Among these four marriages, each two existed simultaneously. Chen was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment for bigamy in Beijing on April 14, 2016.
Because the marriage registration data of different provinces are not shared, Chen took the advantage of this loophole and got married without divorcing the previous wife. The judge of this bigamy case said that they will give judicial suggestions to the civil administration department on this matter.
According to the bill of indictment, Chen Liangtao registered for marriage with four women in four different provinces successively from March 2008 to August 2012. Two women even married him in the same months.
According to the prosecutor, Chen can't even remember the birthdays of his "wives" and the names of his two children.
