iPhone loses 3.2% market share in China

Though Apple's iPhone remains at the top of the Chinese cell phone market, its sales growth has been weakened by Android systems. And this is happening not only in China but all over the world, research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech said in the report it released on April 7.

In the Chinese market, however, this is the first time the iPhone’s sales growth has dropped 3.2 percent. Huawei now has 24.4 percent market shares, surpassing Apple’s 22.2 percent. Two other domestic smartphone brands, Meizu and Oppo, have also enjoyed a rise in sales.

Kantar’s research is based on sales from December 2015 to February 2016. iOS lost the most shares in the Chinese market while Android surprisingly took 76.4 percent of market shares.

Kantar attributes iOS’s loss of shares largely to the rise of Chinese smartphone corporations. The report points out that iOS had its first stumble between February 2015 and February 2016. During that time, iOS lost 3.2 percent market shares while Android steadily gained more in the Chinese market, especially during Spring Festival.
