Yang Jinlin, a culture critic and former Phoenix TV commentator, posted an aerial view design sketch of Beijing's new airport on his Weibo yesterday, asking "[Do you] know the name of the designer?” The post received many comments in response to his question.
Construction was started on Beijing's new airport last year, and is planned to be finished some time in 2019. By 2040, the airport is expected to have accommodated 100 million trips, making it the world's highest capacity airport.
The designer, Zaha Hadid, the famed female architect known around the world for her works featuring sweeping curves and sky-high budgets, died of a heart attack in Miami on March 31 at the age of 65.
Hadid was best known in China for designing the Guangzhou Opera House, the Wangjing SOHO building in Beijing and the capital's Galaxy SOHO development. She also created the unusual aquatics center used for the 2012 London Olympics.
