Surreal Glowing Seashore Seen in Shenzhen, South China

(People's Daily Online)    00:00, April 05, 2016

As night falls on the beaches around Dapeng Bay and Daya Bay in south China’s Shenzhen city, the waves glow with blue lights--tiny, neon dots make it look as if stars are washed up on the shores.

According to Shenzhen Marine Environmental Monitoring Center, the glowing sea waves are caused by red tide, which is a common phenomenon from an algal bloom that will result in coloration of the surface water especially in coastal areas.

The glowing sea in Shenzhen lasted from March 31 to April 2 this year, covering a coastal area of nearly 5 square kilometers. By the night of April 3, the red tide has reduced a lot, while many dead fishes emerged on the beaches.
