Study finds Chinese travelers most addicted to mobile phones

Chinese travelers may have the highest dependence on smartphones, according to a new study, which shows that 87 percent of Chinese respondents consider the device necessary on trips.

TripAdvisor has unveiled the results of its TripBarometer study on Dec. 16, forecasting key travel trends for 2016.

The study says that over three-quarters of global travelers won't leave home without their smartphones, adding that the figure is 12 percent higher among Chinese tourists.

Besides, 60 percent of Chinese respondents most valued hotels that provide free Wi-Fi. 46 percent of global respondents said that if the hotel does not offer free Wi-Fi, they will not consider staying, and 10 percent of respondents are willing to pay extra for the high-speed wireless network.

About 83 percent of Chinese respondents lead the list by saying they would do something they haven't tried yet, while only 69 percent of global travelers polled for this reason. In the new year, the top attempts for Chinese tourists is to travel alone, followed by cruise holidays and adventure travel.

The study also shows that 41 percent of Chinese travelers will buy one extra suitcase for shopping, while only 30 percent of global travelers would do so. Nearly a quarter of Chinese respondents said they would be influenced by movies and TV shows when choose travel destinations.

According to the study, one in three global travelers plans to spend more on their trips in 2016, and the main reason is that they and their families deserve it; 49 percent of global respondents and 61 percent of Chinese respondents cited this reason.

The study is based on an analysis of 44,782 survey responses from 32 countries and regions all over the world.
