Tesla Motors China will recall 7,166 units of Model S due to defective seat belts, China's top quality watchdog said Friday.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between May 1, 2012 and Nov. 12, 2015, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The front seat belts of the vehicles are not properly connected, according to Tesla.

The company will check and fix the problem free of charge and the recall will start from Dec. 4, 2015.
