Chinese people are embracing Black Friday, the American shopping bonanza in which retailers offer deep discounts leading up to the day after Thanksgiving.

Tempting prices for foreign brands, vendors’ acceptance of payment methods such as Alipay, VISA and MasterCard come together with the participation of Chinese e-commerce companies contributing to this year’s robust sales, underscoring the purchasing power of Chinese consumers.

Just a few days after Alipay launched its Black Friday promotion online, more than 30,000 Michael Kors hand bags were sold to Chinese shoppers by the Macy's online platform as well as more than 50,000 bottles of GNC nutrition supplements.

A group of high-end retailers in the United States have teamed up with Alipay, which allows Chinese shoppers to buy goods in RMB. Merchants such as Macy's and Bloomingdale's give Chinese customers a 30 %-50% discount on the original price.

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba is launching an "overseas direct purchasing" service as part of "Black Friday". The one-stop Haitao service covers all the costs of buying overseas products online.

The goods purchased via Alipay on Black Friday will be mailed directly to Chinese customers within five working days, so no freight agencies will be needed, meaning it will save time. It's this element of the service which seems to be the most appealing to Chinese consumers.
