The world's largest "clone factory" will be built in north China's Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA), the Management Committee of TEDA announced Sunday.
The project is co-launched by SINICA Tianjin Gene Technology Company, Institute of Medicine of Peking University, Tianjin International Joint Academy of Biomedicine and Korean Sooam Biotech.
With an investment of 200 million yuan (31 million USD), the clone factory will build animal cloning laboratory, animal cloning center, gene repository, as well as an exhibition center. It will provide cloning services on dogs, pets, beef cattle and race horses, which will accelerate the application of the cloning technology in the improvement in livestock breeds.
SINICA Tianjin Gene Technology Company is a branch of the Boyalife Group. It will also be the operating company of the "clone factory" project in Tianjin. Boyalife Group and Korean Sooam Biotech have established a joint venture of commercial cloning. As of the end of 2015, the company has provided 550 clone dogs which conduct special missions at airports and customs in many countries in the world including China.
