The implementation of the second-child policy has been a hot topic for many Chinese families. According to a report released by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, people aged 40 to 49 make up 50 percent of the total number of people intending to have a second child. Experts point out that women aged from 40 to 49 still have the potential to become pregnant, however, attention should also be paid to the danger of giving birth at that age.
Ms. Wang said her mother-in-law once began talking to her about the second-child policy. As Ms. Wang had recently got pregnant with her first child, she felt confused when her mother-in-law said, “It is kind of lonely that Tao [Ms. Wang’s husband] is an only child. I probably should have a second child while I am still able to so that we can find a nanny together to take care of two babies.”
Ms. Wang was shocked at her mother-in-law’s proposal. “My mother-in-law is 45 years old, my husband is almost 30. If she really had a second child, what would we call each other and who is going to take care of the baby?” Ms. Wang’s husband does not agree with this idea either. But no one knows how to talk Ms. Wang’s mother-in-law out of this idea.
