In the eyes of many people, restoring ancient books is a mysterious and magical job. Those moth-eaten, moldy, damaged books will be given new lives in the hands of the restorers. Today let us know about the story of a beautiful restorer of ancient books in Red House Gallery in Tangxia county, Rui'an city in east China's Zhejiang province.

Ye Xuechen, 23, opened a studio after she graduated from university. Besides teaching students to paint, she also restores ancient books, paintings and ceramics.

As a restorer of ancient books, one needs to have knowledge of textual bibliography, printing history, aesthetics, chemistry, history and theory of Chinese books. At the same time, having a thorough understanding of paper selection for books of different dynasties, binding and layout styles of many areas is a must.

"Practice makes perfect. Restorers of ancient books have to resist loneliness and to focus on the work. I want to join the group of volunteers and to restore the civilization fragments," said Ye Xuechen.
