This is the incredible moment a black bear broke into a car before climbing inside and sitting behind the wheel.

The wild animal was caught on camera roaming around a parking lot in the Smoky Mountains in Tennesse by William Hefner and his wife, who were on their honeymoon.

But they were left shocked when the bear took a sudden interest in a blue Chevrolet Impala that was parked up.

It took a shine to a blue Chevrolet Impala in the parking lot and went over to the vehicle, placing its paw on the door handle

Mr Hefner tried to distract the bear but it suddenly rose up on to its hind legs and hooked a paw in the door handle.

The animal the calmly opens the vehicle before hopping inside the Chevy to sit behind the wheel.

He then sits there for a few seconds, before the car horn can be heard, which spooks the cub, causing him to jump out and run off.

Mr Hefner from Monogahela, Pennsylvania, said: 'The bear was just acting like it owned the car.

The bear then calmly opens the car door and checks to make sure nobody is looking before climbing inside

The bear then gets inside the car and sits in the front seat behind the wheel of the Chevy for several seconds

'Even when I yelled at the bear, he just looked at me like it was no big deal.

'It was just a such mischievous moment.'

'We pulled into the parking lot of the condominium and the bear was just standing there.

After several seconds, the bear then jumps out of the car and runs away after accidentally sounding the horn

'We followed it slowly to see what would happen but never imagined this.'

And Mr Hefner believes the bear could have been attracted to the car by a symbol on its licence plate.

He explained: 'There was actually a black bear on the car plate of the Impala he broke into.'
