Hump Flight Map (From the Website of The Flying Tiger Historical Organization) |
San Francisco, Oct. 29 (People's Daily Online) On November 15th, the Flying Tiger Historical Organization will fly a C 47, “Buzz Buggy”, from Calcutta to Kunming and then on to Guilin, China. Upon completion of the flight the C 47 will be on permanent display at the Flying Tiger Heritage Park and museum.
This flight was conceived by the Flying Tiger Historical Organization well over a year ago to honor and recognize the men who flew the Hump under the worst of conditions, and in so doing delivered the essential supply General Chennault, the Flying Tigers and the Chinese needed to defeat the Japanese during WW II. The plan was, and is, to complete the flight during the 70-year anniversary celebrations taking place around the world.
The planned flight on November 15th is always subject to change as many details cannot be determined until the actual day of departure. Weather, aircraft condition, pilot health, ATC clearances and many other things can affect the actual flight itself but as of right now it is planned to arrive in Kunming on November 15, 2015. The delegation will spend two nights there to visit the Hump Memorial and then fly to Guilin, Buzz Buggy’s final destination. It will be displayed at the main entrance to the Flying Tiger Heritage Park.
Efforts are being made to produce a documentary of the flight. The documentary will help preserve the history and serve to remind and educate many more people about the importance of the Hump and the pilots who flew it.
