Netizens laud outcomes of President Xi's UK visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping successfully paid a state visit to U.K. from Oct. 19 to 23. His visit, which has brought China-Britain ties to a new height, has become one of the hottest topics on People's Daily Online and its social media accounts. Netizens around the world speak highly of the outcomes of this historic visit.

This visit opens a golden era in UK-China relations. During the visit, the UK and China agreed on building a global comprehensive strategic partnership for the 21st Century.

“The Great Britain is really having a GREAT move with China to bring bilateral cooperation to a new era,” a Facebook user wrote on the official account of People’s Daily under the pseudonym KimTem Tan.

The British Queen Elizabeth II held a traditional ceremonial welcome for the Chinese President Xi.

President Xi was received by Her Majesty and senior members of the Royal Family, and held extensive in-depth discussions with Prime Minister David Cameron at No. 10 Downing Street, his Chequers residence, and during a visit to Manchester.

Rene Chang said this truly reflects what PM Cameron and Chancellor Osbourne think of China.

Another netizen named Elee said: “Excellent to note such amicable approaches are maturing into trusted and trustworthy friendships across the oceanic gaps where people have to live with daily comfort of a modern world although many warring conflicts are taking place in various locations or parts of the world. Congratulations, Britain (UK) and China!”

During the visit, President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the British Parliament, lauding "community of shared interests" with Britain.

Jin, a reader commented that shared and common interests are the foundation for world peace. Constant interference in other country's internal affairs will only lead to mistrust and conflicts.

China and UK have secured deals worth about 40 billion pounds ($62 billion) during President Xi’s visit.

Super Carper, A British reader of People’s Daily Online said: “Great to see the Chinese leader is given a warm, friendly welcome to the UK. I hope our countries have a positive future in their relations.”

Besides economic cooperation, netizens also have very high expectation on bilateral scientific cooperation. “The UK is the repository of vast amount of scientific expertise that could not be put to use because the march of time had overtaken the UK competitiveness in the world markets. However China with its vast pool of trained workers is still highly competitive. When coupled with UK expertise, the Chinese juggernaut is simply unstoppable.” commented a reader of People's Daily Online.
