Volkswagen will recall 1,950 diesel vehicles in China to correct the engine software that the automaker has admitted cheating on emissions tests. The recall applies to 1,946 Tiguan sport utility vehicles and four Passat B6 sedans, all of them imported.

Volkswagen is in the process of developing technical solutions to fix the problem and will issue notices of repairing engine software to the affected customers. However, all the vehicles are safe and reliable, the company stressed.

In response, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection, and Quarantine or AQSIQ, China's air quality control authority, said it was highly concerned about the diesel vehicles' defeat device mechanism. The organization would launch an investigation into Volkswagen vehicles.

VW Group announced to recall 11 million diesel vehicles with EA189 engines in early October, including 5 million Volkswagens vehicles, 2.1 million Audi vehicles, 1.2 million Skoda vehicles, 0.7 million Seat vehicles and 1.8 million light commercial vehicles. Prior to that, VW Group said €6.5 billion would be used to deal with this crisis in the third quarter.
