Chinese buyers mulling bid for Australian land the size of Zhejiang (Screenshot from Financial Times)
Chinese buyers are planning to bid for about 100,000 square kilometers of Australian land, approximately the size of China's Zhejiang province, Financial Times reported on October 7.
According to the FT, nearly 20 million heads of cattle are included in the sale, including Anna Creek, the world's largest cattle station. The deal is valued at 1.51 billion yuan (A$325m, US$231m).
News from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation said the owner of the land S. Kidman & Co, the largest private landholder in Australia, is expected to announce the winner of the bid early next month.
In early April this year, S. Kidman & Co announced it would like to sell leases of its 18 ranches spread over Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory. The company is essentially a family business with 98 percent of its shares held by the Kidman family.
