Retired Brazilian footballer Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima, who is popularly dubbed "the phenomenon" and considered by experts and fans to be one of the greatest soccer players of all time, announced his plan of opening 30 soccer schools in China.
Ronaldo revealed the move at the ribbon-cutting ceremony of his soccer school in Campinas, Brazil.
"I hope my method of soccer training could help develop Chinese soccer. I think Chinese soccer has the mass base and determination, but it may still lack the concept and training method," said Ronaldo, who also told the press that the former Barbelona, Real Madrid and Inter Milan strikers are expected to be present when the first soccer school opens in Beijing in November this year.
"Besides business factor, the major reason for me to open soccer school in China is because there are lots of soccer fans and players in the country, and Chinese government and civil organization also focus on soccer development," Ronaldo told Xinhua news.
The franchises will be mainly located in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. The soccer schools will partner with local elementay and middle schools to pick the best players and send them to either the U.S. or Brazil to learn how to play.
