DALIAN, Sept. 23 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged administrative and law enforcement organs to better control and resolve public security risks.

"Currently, public security incidents are likely to occur and may happen frequently, and the task of ensuring public security is onerous," Xi said in a written instruction publicized Wednesday to coincide with a meeting on social security management.

Xi called for precise, lawful and coordinated efforts to prevent, resolve and control various risks. He urged political, legal and social management departments to adapt to the current situation and heighten their awareness of risk.

Public security threats ranging from online fraud to knife attacks have been routinely reported. Last week, an alleged mentally ill person in central China's Hunan Province stabbed his parents and niece to death.

Xi also told Party and government departments at all levels to focus on and manage public security as the foundation for people's livelihood and the country's economic and social development.

Wednesday's meeting called for modern science and technology, innovative ideas and methods as well as improved infrastructure support to prevent public security risks from growing and proliferating.

The meeting was attended by Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, police chief Guo Shengkun, head of the Supreme People's Court Zhou Qiang, and Cao Jianming, head of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
