Mr. Fang, a resident in Hangzhou, southeast China's Zhejiang province has found that a box of mooncakes in his home have not gone bad after 10 years.
The label on the box shows that the mooncakes were made on September 3, 2005 and the shelf life is 30 day. But 10 years on, the mooncakes still look good.
Mr. Fang believes some preservatives must have been added to the mooncakes. He has tried to contact the producer---Xi Zi Hotel in Hangzhou but has not got an answer so far.
Experts says that too much preservatives may be the reason that the mooncakes have not gone bad after 10 years, but whether the amount has exceeded the allowed limits has not yet been ascertained.
