Yangyang, 4, staggers in a ward in a hospital in southwest China's Sichuan province with the help of his father. Yangyang's left foot looks a little stiff and his left hand cannot unwind normally.

Four years ago, only one-month-old Yangyang accidentally fell off the bed. Yangyang kept crying and did not want to drink milk. Four hours after the accident, his parents sent Yangyang to a local hospital.

The doctors said that Yangyang had a hairline fracture in his head and asked Yangyang's parents whether to treat the infant. Yangyang's parents thought there was no hope left, so they took their son home.

"We regained hopes when Yangyang began to drink milk the next morning," said Yangyang's father, surnamed Xiong. The couple took their son to the hospital again. After a CT scan, Yangyang was diagnosed with skull fracture and brain damage.

As the hospital had no condition for surgery, the doctors suggested Yangyang's parents to transfer him to another hospital. However, the doctors in that hospital said it would be better and safer to carry out surgery when Yangyang grew older but possibility of sequela remained. Yangyang's parents took their son home again with the doctors’ approval.

As Yangyang grew older, his grandparents found his left hand cannot move flexibly and he cannot walk steadily although he is four. There is a bulge on Yangyang's head and people can see throbs around a dent place on Yangyang's head. Yangyang still cannot speak like other children of his age. His parents took him to hospital hoping their son can get surgery.

"If not treated in time, Yangyang's condition will get worse," said Gu Yingjiang, director of Neurosurgery Department of Sichuan Medical University Affiliated Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. "However, it is very difficult to perform such surgery because of the patient’s young age and the long delay."

Preparation work of the surgery is in process and Yangyang will get the surgery soon.
