Nobel Prize winner George Smoot has confirmed to make his first investment in China. He and O.ME, a 3D printer intelligent application and creative education development company, signed a cooperation agreement on Sept. 9 in Beijing, China News Agency reported.
The American astrophysicist and cosmologist won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2006 for his work on the Cosmic Background Explorer with John C. Mather that led to the "discovery of the black body form and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation." He set up Smoot China Science and Technology in this April and has chosen 3D printer as the company's first investment project in China.
According to Wang Yuewei, partner of O.ME, the company is dedicated to the research and development, production and sales of high-end 3D printers of both industrial level and desktop level. O.ME has developed China's first 3D printer operated by Android system.
At the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement, Smoot said that he is very confident of the market prospect of 3D printing. And the investment decision is made after carefully consideration and evaluation.
