Chinese naval ship sets out for Indonesian independence ceremony

GUANGZHOU, Sept. 10 -- A missile frigate with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, set off on Thursday morning to attend an international fleet review commemorating the 70th anniversary of Indonesian independence.

The frigate, "Yuncheng", will arrive in Bitung Port in Manado, Indonesia on Sept. 14.

This is the third time that the Navy have attended Indonesia's independence celebrations, said commanding officer Zhai Baoran, Senior Colonel of the PLA navy.

A Chinese naval fleet visited Indonesia for its 50th anniversary of independence in 1995. In 2009, the missile destroyer "Guangzhou" took part in the international fleet review at the 64th independence anniversary, Zhai said.

Yuncheng has been deployed in escort missions in the Gulf of Aden in 2011 and 2014, and has so far visited eight foreign countries including Britain, Thailand and Mozambique.
