A waiter at a hotpot restaurant surnamed Zhu in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province has been formally arrested for pouring boiling water on a female customer on Sept 6th, 2015.

The customer surnamed Lin sustained burns across 42 percent of her body including on her chest area and was in intensive care at PLA No.118 Hospital.

The rash act occurred when Lin asked the waiter to add some water to her hotpot. Zhu ignored Lin's request, leading to an argument.

The waiter left the table in a rage and returned with a pot of boiling water and poured it over Lin's head.

He did not stop there. The waiter then pushed the customer onto the floor and beat her until he was subdued by other waiters and Lin's panicked mother and sister, who were having dinner with her.

Zhu was detained for intentionally injuring another person after the family called the police.

The owner of the restaurant apologized to Lin on Weibo and promised to cover all the medical expenses, which amounts to about 200,000 yuan.
