Since Sep. 3, technicians from Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Company of China CNR Group have begun the assembling and trail run of the prototype vehicle for the Metro Rail Line 3 of Manila, capital of the Philippines. After the trail run, China CNR will supply carriages and complete trains to Manila next year, which are expected to alleviate the congestion in Line 3, Xinhua reported.

The Metro Rail Line 3 of Manila passes through the financial center Makati City and the most populated Quezon City of the greater Manila area. However, the train condition is poor and the security situation around the train stations is not good. Currently, Line 3 has altogether 73 carriages, many of which can't get needed repairs and are not usable. The designed transport capacity of the line is 350,000 person trips per day, but it ships over 500,000 people every day. Crowded and unpunctual, the metro rail has been long criticized by the public.

The Chinese trains will hopefully alleviate the problems faced by the Manila Metro Rail. According to an official from the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways, the trail run will last until this December. And the China CNR will begin to supply 3 train carriages each month to Manila from next year, altogether 48 carriages, with a total value of 3.75 billion peso or 510 million yuan.
