China arrests local officials for graft

BEIJING, Aug. 17  -- Four officials from Shanxi Province, north China, are being investigated for allegedly accepting bribes, China's Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) said on Monday.

The Shanxi provincial procuratorate has approved the arrest of Dong Hongyun, former Communist Party of China (CPC) chief of Xinzhou City; Wu Yongping, former Party chief of Shanxi Bureau of Coal Industry; Xie Genfa, former Party chief of the Communication University of Shanxi; and Hao Suzhen, deputy director of Shanxi provincial audit bureau.

In addition, two other officials from Shandong and Jiangsu provinces have been prosecuted for graft and await criminal trials.

Niu Qizhong, former director of Shandong Administration for Industry and Commerce, was prosecuted by a local procuratorate. According to the indictment, Niu will stand trial at a local court on charges of accepting bribes, seeking profits for others and taking advantage of his official post.

Wang Yujun, former chief executive of China Resources Power Holdings Co. Ltd., was prosecuted by a local procuratorate in Jiangsu Province. Wang will now stand trial on charges of accepting bribes, seeking profits for others, taking advantage of his post and embezzlement, according to the indictment.
