Two local officials were killed Monday by a landslide while they were patrolling the typhoon stricken areas in Huoshan county, East China’s Anhui province.
He Bishan, Party secretary of Foziling Township, and Chen Guichun, vice mayor of the township, were inspecting the typhoon stricken area in torrential rains caused by Typhoon Souldlor, when a sudden mudslide hit them, killing both of them and destroying their car.
Typhoon Soudelor caused heavy damages to Huoshan county, affecting a total of 220,000 people and destroying 30,000 acres of crop fields. Local transportation, telecommunication, and electric supplies were cut off and heavily damaged, causing an estimated loss of 450 million yuan (75 million USD).
According to official report, the number of people killed by Typhoon Soudelor in China rose to 21 on Monday, with five more missing.
