

A Hong Kong drugstore sold medicated oil about 100 times higher than the market price to Mainland Chinese tourists. On August 4, Prestige Pharmacy Limited, the drugstore, was expelled from the Hong Kong General Chamber of Pharmacy due to its deception. Since the H.K. General Chamber was founded 40 years ago, this was the very first time there was an annulment of membership.
According to the President of H.K. General Chamber Zhang Derong, the Chamber is consider launching an online platform, which can list parts of pharmacy goods for consumer reference.
Prestige Pharmacy Limited is located at Causeway Bay and is now closed. On July 16, they sold two bottles of medicated oil to a Fujian Province tourist with a unit price of HK$19800, which is 100 times higher than other retailers. After being investigated by the police, this drugstore refunded the money to the customer.
Zhang Derong said, “Membership cancellation is the most serious punishment”. He also said that they will strictly control with tightened inspection, in order to restore consumer's confidence.
