According to initial statistics, the national box office in July reaches 5.49 billion yuan, which again rewrites the monthly box office record of Chinese film market after successively breaking the records of daily and weekly box office. This figure exceeds the gross box office of Chinese movie from 2002 to 2005.

In July, all the new records of national box office were mostly hit by Chinese movies. The domestic box office reached 5.3 billion yuan, accounting for 95.6 percent of the gross box office.

July is an important movie-release period besides the New Year, Spring Festival and National Day. It lasts for a long time, has great market capacity and has considerable box office. In the past five years, the films released in summer vacation contributed to a quarter of the annual box office.

The new records benefit from the outstanding performance of the domestic films released in summer vacation. Several films have gained both high box office and good reputation. For example, “Monkey King: Hero is back” has set the record of box office for domestic animated movie; “Monster Hunt” becomes the domestic box office champion, ranking No. 1 in the weekly international box office list made by the U.S. box office agency for two weeks in a row, and exceeds such Hollywood movies as Minions, Ant-Man, Inside Out, etc.

Besides, the number of the people watching films reaches 159 million. Since this year, the box office of Chinese movie market has already accumulated to 25.9 billion yuan, in which the domestic films account for 57.2 percent.
