According to the statistics and reports from Ministry of Transportation, nearly 20,000 children under 14 die in traffic accidents every year in China.
The accidents largely arise from lack of necessary safety protection measures, that is, children safety seats. According to another statistics, 60 percent of the children safety seats sold globally are made in China, however, only 1 percent of Chinese use children safety seats. Even in some large and medium-sized cities, the rate of using children safety seats is lower than 5 percent.
At present, children safety seat is enlisted in China Compulsory Certification catalogue, which will go into effect on Sept. 1 this year.
Children safety seats have higher popularity in Beijing. Whereas in some second-tier and third-tier cities in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei and other regions, the majority of parents still maintain that it is safest to hold the children while riding cars.
A research in Beijing finds that there is no counter for selling children safety seats in an auto parts market. The children safety seats can only be found in large shopping malls and special consumer goods stores for women and babies.
Compared with the difficulty in buying children safety seats in real stores, the online stores have a variety of children safety seats of all brands. However, the quality of children safety seats sold online is hard to guarantee, less than 50 percent of which have completely met the quality standard.
At present, over 40 countries in the world have enacted laws to stipulate that children under 12 shall use safety seats. While in China, Shanghai, Shandong and Shenzhen have formulated compulsory provisions for using safety seats when children under 4 ride in private cars. The children safety seat market is expected to come into rapid development with the annual demand increasing from 12 million to 15 million.
