JAKARTA, July 25 -- China and Indonesia can join hands to achieve common development and prosperity as the two countries share similar development strategies and goals, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Xie Feng has said.

Xie made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Xinhua on the eve of China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng's official visit to Indonesia from July 25 to 28 at the invitation of the chairman of the people's consultative assembly of Indonesia(MPR) Zulkifli Hasan.

Xie said the visit of Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is of great importance in bilateral high-level exchanges.

The Chinese ambassador said China and Indonesia are important emerging economies as well as large developing countries and both are currently at critical junctures of development.

As good neighbors, good friends and good partners, "each step forward in bilateral friendly cooperation will bring new momentum to the two nations' development," he added.

Noting that China-Indonesia ties have entered a fast-track of leapfrog development, Xie said both countries are facing historic opportunities of dovetailing each other's development strategies, further enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation and achieving common prosperity.

He said China welcomes Indonesia to join China-proposed 21st Century Maritime Silk Road initiative and play an active role in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, and China will also proactively participate in the development of Indonesia's vision of "world maritime axis" and its infrastructure construction.

Talking about the friendly cooperation between CPPCC and MPR, Xie said it is an important part of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and reflects the sound momentum of bilateral ties at a high level and omni-dimension.

He said Yu's visit is the first in 10 years by a CPPCC National Committee chairman which is highly expected by Indonesia.

According to the agenda, China's top political advisor will meet with Indonesia's leaders of government, MPR, parliament and Regional Representative Council, visit local and Chinese companies in Indonesia's two largest cities as well as make extensive contact with various circles of Indonesian society.

Xie said Yu's visit will surely further bilateral understanding and friendship, and boost closer relations of relevant state organs between the two countries.

Xie was confident that the visit will expand bilateral practical cooperation in various fields such as investment, production capacity and infrastructure, promote people-to-people exchanges and inject fresh impetus into bilateral ties.
