Golden eel appears and confirmed to be edible

You may be familiar with eel, but have you seen an eel in gold color? A man in a village of Hubei caught a golden eel on July 21, 2015. Expert explains it is normal for eels to turn out in this color, and this type of eel is also edible.

Golden eels have also been found in other provinces of China. Specialists have ruled out the possibility of artificial chromosome. Some netizens with experience comment that the color of the eel has a lot to do with the environment and water quality.

Yang Daiqing, Professor at Yangtze University who is an eel expert in the agriculture department tells cnhubei.com that golden eel does exist in the nature though the number is quite small. The phenomenon is mostly caused by the water it lives in and its own gene. Professor Yang clarifies that golden eel is edible.
