PARIS, June 5 -- China U-23 soccer team suffered their worst defeat in the Toulon Tournament, losing all four group matches, scoring only one goal.
It's the worst record for Chinese team in the tournament after losing 1-3 to England U-20 on Friday in Group B.
In the previous three group games, China lost to Mexico 0-2, Cote d'Ivoire 0-3 and Morocco 0-3, allowing 11 goals and scoring only once. The result put China in the last place of the 10-team tourney and also leveled China's bottom ranking in the 1983 and 2011 editions that both featured eight teams.
China's Zhang Xiaobin scored the sole goal against England to avoid a goal drought in the tournament.
The 3-1 victory earned England, who need to win by two in order to finish second in the group, a third-place playoff against the United States at Stade Mayol Toulon.
The US U-23 secured second place in Group A with a 1-0 win over Qatar in their final group game on Tuesday.
Group leaders France and Morocco will face off in the championship game.
