MOSCOW, June 3 -- The upcoming BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summits would unite countries for development, peace and security of the region and world, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here Wednesday.
When meeting with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, Wang expressed China's support for Russia's hosting of the two summits in Ufa, capital of Russia's Bashkortostan Republic.
Wang highlighted that against the background of weak world economic recovery and increasing hotspot issues, the BRICS countries -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- should unite for the promotion of world peace and security, and the democratization of international relations.
As Russia holds the rotating chairs of the two blocs this year, China hopes the country would take the lead and push forward the signing and implementation of relevant documents at the summits, Wang said.
The Ufa SCO summit would see the signing of the bloc's strategic development plan until 2025, while the BRICS countries would focus on an economic partnership strategy and the blueprint of practical cooperation, said Wang.
Progress would also be made at the SCO summit on pragmatic cooperation, expansion of the bloc and so on, he said.
He urged BRICS members to continue coordination on international affairs such as the development agenda after 2015, climate change negotiations, financial system reform and cybersecurity.
Meanwhile, Wang called on the BRICS countries to strengthen global financial governance and facilitate the establishment and operation of the development bank and contingent reserve arrangement.
He said Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Russia in May was a milestone and gave new impetus to the expansion and deepening of bilateral cooperation.
Lavrov said Russia is actively preparing for the two summits and is looking forward to working with China for more practical achievements at the summits.
Wang said that China would continue high-level contacts and exchanges with Russia, promote the linking of the Moscow-led Eurasian Economic Union with Beijing's Silk Road Economic Belt initiative.
He added that China-Russia cooperation projects would speed up on infrastructure construction, energy, investment and space industry, while Lavrov echoed that Russia highly valued its cooperation with China and would push forward cooperation in key sectors.
Besides preparation work of the two summits and China-Russia relations, the two ministers also exchanged views on trilateral cooperation between China, Russia and Mongolia, the Iranian nuclear issue and the fight against terrorism.
