LUANDA, May 18 -- Three Chinese businessmen were wounded in an armed robbery at the Benfica district of southern Luanda on Sunday night, officials with the Chinese embassy to Luanda told Xinhua on Monday.

The incident took place at about 8:00 p.m. local time at a Chinese-owned glass and wood company, when a local security guard broke into the office with an AK-47 assault rifle and opened fire. The security guard fled away from the scene after failing to open the coffer in the office.

The three injured, two of them seriously, were rushed to local hospitals and were in stable conditions on Monday after surgical operations.

Zhao Haihan, councillor officer with the Chinese embassy in Luanda, said his embassy had reported the attempted robbery to local police and demanded prompt and immediate police investigation into the incident.

The Chinese embassy also appealed to Chinese companies to shore up security measures and to follow legal procedures and check proper identification documents when employing local workers, particularly armed security guards.

On December 28, 2014, an Angolan driver broke into a Chinese company doing aluminum alloy doors and windows in Benfica district, killing three Chinese workers and seriously injuring another. The suspect was still at large. Enditem
