There are several abandoned children in Dongsheng Village in Longsheng Various Nationalities Autonomous County, in southwest China's Guangxi Province. Conditions in Dongsheng Village are so poor that their mothers deserted them and theri fathers have to leave home and find work as migrants. As a result, they have no choice but to live with their grandparents. According to the Principal of Dongsheng Primary School, there are 148 students at his school, of whom 63 have been left by thier parents. The survey conducted by the school showed that fewer than one in five of these children had good academic performance. The lack of a family environment leads to acute problems in the psychological and physical development of such children, and they are subject to character flaws.
