China and Denmark celebrate 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations establishment

"The bilateral relationship between the China and Denmark has progressed tremendously. Denmark is now one of the largest exporters to China in terms of trading figure per capita," said Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen at a press conference in Beijing Monday.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations establishment between China and Denmark, celebrations include a gala dinner and an agriculture and sustainability-themed seminar had been held by the two countries at Great Hall of the People, May 11, 2015. Ms. Yan Junqi, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr. Manu Sareen, Danish Minister for Children, Gender Equality, Integration and Social Affairs, Mr. Wang Chao, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister, Mr. Li Gao, Vice Minister for State Bureau for Letters and Calls and Mr. Song Jingwu, Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries were present at the celebrations together with Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen. Leaders from both countries also signed 6 cooperation agreements and memorandums in fields of agriculture and energy at the celebration.

Ambassador Petersen notes at the press conference that Denmark is the only country in the Western world that has had an unbroken diplomatic presence in China since 1908; and it was also one of the very first Western countries recognizing the establishing diplomatic relations with China. Now China is Denmark's largest trading partner and export market in Asia with more than 60 billion DKK (1US dollar = 6.6771DKK) bilateral trading figure in goods. From 2011 to 2014, Denmark has also had a growth rate of more than 44 percent in its exportation of goods to mainland China. Apart from the field of trading, China and Denmark have also made remarkable cooperation in social affairs, legal affairs, anti-corruption, foreign policy and defense.

"Our private companies and institutions have full-fledged engagement in the Sino-Danish partnership for mutual benefits and among the European countries, Denmark is one of the largest exporters to China in terms of trading figure per capita, as well as the largest investor in China per capita," said Ambassador Petersen, "this celebration marks the long friendship between us."
