LONDON, May 8 -- British Prime Minister David Cameron's Conservative Party won an overall majority in the House of Commons following the general election held on Thursday.

By 10:40 GMT on Friday morning, the Conservatives have secured 325 out of a total of 650 seats in the parliament, winning an effective majority to govern again after leading a coalition government with the Liberal Democrats in the last 5 years.

The victory means that the Conservatives would be able to form a majority government on their own, without the need to seek help from other minor parties.
