HARBIN, May 2 -- A man who injured two people including a policeman with a homemade gun was shot dead by police Friday in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, authorities said Saturday.
The suspect, 43-year-old Zhao Guogang, shot a man on the street and injured him on the left leg at around 9 a.m. in Hegang City, the public security bureau in Hegang said in a press release.
It said Zhao fled the scene after the shooting.
Three policemen chased him and cornered him near a residential area in Xing'an district. Instead of surrendering himself, Zhao opened fire on the policemen and injured one of them on the head, the document said.
Police then shot Zhao, who died at the scene.
The injured policeman was landed in hospital.
Zhao was identified as a native of Daqing City in Heilongjiang.
Police said he was using a homemade gun, and gunpowder was found in his residence in Xing'an district of Hegang.
