BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, April 17 -- The first all-ladies charity run to take place in Brunei Darussalam on May 17, "She Runs 2015" could possibly attract 1,000 runners' participation from home and abroad, Wu Chun, a Brunei-born-Chinese actor, singer, former model and gym instructor told a press conference here Friday afternoon.
Organized by Wu Chun's Fitness Zone in association with the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam as official partner and the country's leading telecommunication provider Telebru as the title sponsor, with the aim of raising funds for the Children with Cancer Foundation (YASKA), the charity run is a celebration of Fitness Zone's recent decision to convert its Serusop branch into an all-women health club.
According to Wu, "She Runs 2015" is dedicated to empowering women to become a better self from the inside out. He said over 600 local women have already registered for the running event. Wu Chun, managing director of Fitness Zone, recently visited Japanwhere he attended a meet-the-fans session and promoted the charity run, which saw some Japanese women expressing their interest in the event.
The donations from the event will enable the Cancer Foundation to run programs and facilitate activities for children suffering from cancer at the Women and Children's Block of Raja Isteri PengiranAnak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital. Donations will also be spent on items such as ripple mattresses, diapers, milk powder and specialized equipment like wheelchairs.
There will be two categories for "She Runs 2015" -- 3.7 km and 5 km. Limited to only 1,000 participants, runners will receive a free Wu Chun designed T-shirt, racing bib, a one-week free pass to Fitness Zone, a finishing medal and vouchers.
