BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 7 -- Senior management and staff members of China's petrochemical giant Hengyi Industries as well as LSL & WEC (Hengyi's contractors) initiated Wednesday a " Keep Brunei Clean" campaign along the South Eastern shore of Puala Muara Besar (PMB).

The initiative is aimed at fostering a sense of responsibility and accountability among Hengyi's staff of the need to preserve cleanliness and serenity in the surrounding area, a press statement issued here by Hengyi said Wednesday. "Protecting the environment is something that Hengyi has been advocating from day one. Brunei is a beautiful and clean country and we would like to play a part in ensuring that it remains that way. There are a lot of containers, debris and floating wood washed ashore along the beaches at PMB and it is everyone's responsibility including Hengyi's to ensure the beaches around the island and across Brunei are kept clean,"said Shen Xiao Fei, deputy director of Hengyi's Integrated Project Management Team.

Petrochemical giant Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd (Hengyi) from China plans to invest, construct, operate and maintain an Integrated Oil Refinery and Aromatics Cracker plant on Pulau Muara Besar. The investment for Phase 1 of the project is expected to amount to approximately 4 billion U.S. dollars (5 billion Brunei dollars), creating about 780 job opportunities in the country.
