BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- Officials found not complying with the law will not be promoted, no matter how capable he or she is, provincial and ministerial officials were told on Friday.
Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Political Bureau, made the remarks at the closing session of a workshop attended by provincial and ministerial heads at the Party School of the CPC Central Committee.
Compliance with law will be a major factor in assessing performance of an official, said Liu, also president of the school.
Liu promised to tighten supervision on the promotion of officials and exclude those who defy the law and Party discipline from critical posts.
Addressing the opening session of the workshop on Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping ordered senior provincial and ministerial officials to set a good example in abiding by the law.
The President, who is also General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, said some leading officials had not performed their duties by law and bent the law for personal gain.
Liu Yunshan urged the officials to carefully study Xi's speech and understand their important role in promoting the rule of law in China.
