The White Horse Tavern in Rhode Island, United States is the oldest tavern in the world. Built in 1673, it soon became the "conference hall" criminal court, and city council of the local colony. The old owner, William Mayes, once a renowned pirate, transferred the tavern to his sister after running it for a short time. After a remodeling in 1957, White Horse Tavern opened its doors once again to provide people with traditional American food.
